The SC Legislative Black Caucus is concerned with the needs and plight of the victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti. In an attempt to assist with the current emergency efforts, we have implemented a SC - Haiti Earthquake Recovery Fund. This initiative will provide an opportunity for persons or organizations to contribute, monetarily or with specified items, to the people of Haiti. For more questions and details, please contact SC Legislative Black Caucus office at 803.734.3041 or any Legislative Black Caucus member.
As part of the Recovery initiative, we are hosting a three-fold proposal to assist the ongoing efforts to rebuild Port-Au-Prince and surrounding areas.
- First, we commit to assist with the current relief and recovery efforts.
- Secondly, we commit to finding out what additional provisions will be needed to assist the thousands of displaced citizens of Haiti.
These long-term commitments will be accomplished by collecting contributions and forwarding them through the appropriate channels for distribution.

Donate to Doctors Without Borders
Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in France in 1971.
Today, MSF provides aid in nearly 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural disasters. MSF provides independent, impartial assistance to those most in need. MSF reserves the right to speak out to bring attention to neglected crises, to challenge inadequacies or abuse of the aid system, and to advocate for improved medical treatments and protocols.
Support from individuals like you is essential to our ability to operate independently, and allows Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontiéres (MSF) to respond at a moment's notice to the most urgent emergencies, often in countries and regions that are otherwise forgotten. MSF's decision to intervene in any crisis is based solely on our independent assessment of people's needs-not political, economic, or religious interests. Our freedom to act and make decisions independently enables us to respond more quickly and to be the first on the scene to provide emergency medical assistance, even in areas farthest from media attention.

Donate to American Red Cross
American Red Cross was founded in 1881 by visionary leader Clara Barton, the American Red Cross has been the nation's premier emergency response organization. As part of a worldwide movement that offers neutral humanitarian care to the victims of war, the American Red Cross distinguishes itself by also aiding victims of devastating natural disasters. Over the years, the organization has expanded its services, always with the aim of preventing and relieving suffering.
Today, in addition to domestic disaster relief, the American Red Cross offers compassionate services in five other areas: community services that help the needy; support and comfort for military members and their families; the collection, processing and distribution of lifesaving blood and blood products; educational programs that promote health and safety; and international relief and development programs.
An average of 92 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money, and blood to do its work.
As a 501(c)(3) public charity, the American Red Cross relies upon the support of generous Americans to fulfill its mission.
